Your answer counts

Calculate locally. No account needed.

This tool models a historical 60-question format: +1.5 for a correct answer, −0.4 for an incorrect answer and 0 for an unanswered question. Verify the official rules for the paper you are using.

Your raw practice score

0.0points

60 unanswered · 0 correct · 0 incorrect

0 × 1.5 − 0 × 0.4 = 0.0

Historical 60-question format. This is not an admission result or a predicted university cutoff.

Historical marking model

Correct × 1.5 − incorrect × 0.4

Unanswered = 60 − correct − incorrect. Unanswered questions contribute zero points. The raw mathematical range is −24 to 90.

For example, 40 correct and 10 incorrect answers leave 10 unanswered: 60 − 4 = 56 points. Each wrong answer subtracts 0.4 points; it does not subtract the 1.5 points awarded for a correct answer. Counts refer to one complete paper, so correct and incorrect answers cannot add up to more than 60.

Four worked examples

60 correct · 0 incorrect · 0 unanswered

60 × 1.5 = 90.0 points

0 correct · 60 incorrect · 0 unanswered

0 − 60 × 0.4 = −24.0 points

0 correct · 0 incorrect · 60 unanswered

0 × 1.5 − 0 × 0.4 = 0.0 points

40 correct · 10 incorrect · 10 unanswered

40 × 1.5 − 10 × 0.4 = 56.0 points

Source and admission-year limits

The University of Bologna's official 2018/19 Medicine and Surgery admission call, page 10 documents the +1.5 / −0.4 / 0 marking scheme and a maximum of 90 points. It is a historical source, not a current admissions notice.

Historical source reviewed 15 October 2026. This tool does not confirm the marking rules for a current or future admission cycle. Use the official exam-information sources and your university's call to check the rules that apply to you. The 2026 archive remains a separate historical reference.

Questions about scoring

Understand what the number means.

How do I calculate an IMAT practice score?

For the historical format used here, multiply correct answers by 1.5, subtract 0.4 for each incorrect answer, and add nothing for unanswered questions. Check that your counts refer to the same 60-question paper and its published answer key.

Can the calculated score be negative?

Yes. Sixty incorrect answers produce −24 points. The tool preserves that raw result instead of rounding it up to zero. Eligibility and ranking rules are separate from this arithmetic.

Does this tell me whether I will get into medical school?

No. Admission depends on the applicable year, university, available places, candidate category and official ranking rules. A practice score alone cannot establish an admission cutoff or offer.

Do I need an account, and are my results saved?

No account is needed. The calculator runs in your browser without sending or saving your answer counts or scores. Use the workspace separately if you want saved quiz history and study progress.
