IMAT exam guide

What is the IMAT, and where do you check the rules?

The International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT) is commonly used to refer to Italy's English-language admission test for specified medical degree courses. The responsible authorities publish the binding rules for each academic year.

Your admission cycle

Verify four things before planning around a date.

This evergreen guide explains what to check. It does not announce unverified dates or registration windows for a future exam.

Exam date and registration

Read the official notice for your admission cycle. Confirm the registration window, time zone, payment deadline, and test centre; do not copy dates from an earlier year.

Format, syllabus, and scoring

Find the annual decree and its annexes. Confirm the number of questions, time allowed, marking rules, and subject distribution before configuring full simulations.

Eligibility and places

Check the relevant university call, qualification requirements, available places, and candidate category. EU and non-EU processes can differ; follow the rules that apply to you.

Application and results

Use Universitaly and the university's official instructions for submission, preferences, results, and enrolment. Keep confirmation records and check official amendments.

Preparation and historical rules

Use previous formats as references.

Previous IMAT materials are useful for practising science, reasoning, reading, and pacing. Their dates and rules belong to their own admission cycle. MEDichondria preserves a 2026 archive with official-source links for historical reference.

The platform separates Physics and Mathematics into individual study tracks. Consult the annual decree for the official question groupings; the public IMAT syllabus map explains the distinction.

Build subject knowledge now using focused questions and retrieval. When the rules for your cycle are published, adapt full mocks to those rules rather than assuming an earlier question count, duration, or scoring system remains unchanged.

For a historical 60-question practice paper using +1.5 / −0.4 / 0 marking, try the IMAT score calculator with negative marking. It shows the arithmetic and unanswered count; official eligibility and ranking rules still need separate verification.

Official sources

Check the authority responsible for each decision.

If official sources disagree, check the later applicable decree or correction and contact the responsible authority. MEDichondria is an independent preparation platform.
