IMAT past papers

Official IMAT past papers and a practical review method.

Find previous IMAT question-paper PDFs on the Italian Ministry's own archive. Use them to study question style, practise decisions and identify gaps, while checking the rules for the year you intend to sit.

IMAT papers from 2023 to 2026

These links open the official published versions. They are answer-bearing resources, so avoid reading them before an unseen timed attempt. Files stay on the Ministry's website.

The official MUR IMAT archive page links the published paper and previous years. MUR notes that the correct option is A throughout its published 2026 and 2025 versions. That ordering is an answer-publication convention; it is not a strategy for answering an exam.

For older years or a changed link, start from the official archive and select Medicine and Surgery in English / IMAT. Do not substitute an Italian-language medical admission paper without checking what it represents.

Before attempting a paper

Protect the value of an unseen attempt.

  1. Record the exam year and the exact version. Read its official duration and scoring instructions. The 2026 format archive is historical; the evergreen exam guide explains how to check your applicable rules.
  2. If answers are highlighted or ordered predictably, treat the document as a review resource. For a diagnostic, use an answer-hidden version you are entitled to use, or ask a study partner to prepare a shuffled version for personal practice and keep the original key separately.
  3. Work without looking at the key. Note confidence and questions skipped. If you have already seen the answers, record the attempt as revision rather than a new diagnostic.
  4. Score against the official key and applicable rules. For the historical 60-question +1.5 / −0.4 / 0 format, use the IMAT score calculator to check the arithmetic. A practice score is not an admission decision; cut-offs depend on the relevant year, institution, places and candidate category.

After the attempt

Review decisions, then check the repair.

Explain every uncertain choice

Write why your chosen answer seemed right and which evidence or method settles the question. Review correct guesses and slow solutions as well as mistakes.

Repair the smallest gap

Name the cause: missing knowledge, misread evidence, a faulty method or pacing. Return to the exact subject topic and retrieve the rule before taking another full paper.

Test transfer

Use a new question on the same concept. Reattempt the old paper after a delay, recognising that answer memory can inflate your result. Compare like-for-like first attempts where possible.

For example, if a genetics answer was wrong because you counted phenotypes when asked for genotypes, rewrite the question in your own words, draw the allele combinations and solve a different cross. Our IMAT biology guide includes a worked inheritance example.

Past-paper questions

What these resources can tell you

Are official IMAT past papers free?

The MUR paper PDFs linked here are publicly accessible without a MEDichondria account. They are Ministry resources; MEDichondria does not claim authorship or host copies.

Are past papers enough for IMAT preparation?

They show previous questions and help rehearse application, but the supply of unseen papers is limited. Combine them with syllabus study, targeted original questions and delayed review. The 12-week study plan gives each type of work a place.

Do older papers confirm the next exam format?

A paper belongs to its own year. Check the official annual decree before adopting its timing, question distribution or scoring for a future cycle. A past-paper result does not establish a future university cut-off.
